Our Story

Wishbone Site Furnishings all started in 1995 with one primary objective: to design and build maintenance-free, municipal-grade furniture using recycled plastic lumber and recycled metals. We have established ourselves, through the years and thousands of products later, as the industry leader in the site furnishings market with cities and municipalities across North America attesting to the fact that our products do exactly what they were designed to do.

Our success stems from our ability to adapt, create and deliver exceptional products that meet our customer’s expectations and the public’s demand for environmental stewardship. We have become a strong force and resource for those inquiring, acquiring, and building products using recycled plastic lumber.

Now, over 29 years later, the word has gone out and Wishbone is thriving. We thank you for your part in our success. So... how did we come up with our name?

What’s in the name? Why ‘Wishbone’?  Once upon a time, 1995, to be exact, two men got together over coffee in the small town of Chase, British Columbia. Recycled plastic lumber was just trickling onto the market and they thought that maybe there was a business opportunity waiting. Using this product to create outdoor furniture for municipal and residential applications. They then built a few sample products, presented them to friends, family and folks in the municipality. Everyone thought it was a terrific idea and with what generally happens with most great idea’s, anticipated sales started coming in. They had product, and the sales but they were missing a critical component; the name.

Finding the perfect name was a challenge. Many names were tossed around the air, but nothing seemed to fit until one blessed Christmas dinner on a wintery night. The ‘aha’ moment came when John took his carving knife to the superbly roasted turkey. There, staring him in the face was the biggest wishbone he had ever seen. Wishbone. That was it! Perhaps, it is the annual tradition of pulling the wishbone apart to make a wish for the coming year or maybe it is the wishes of previous years had come true. Naming the company Wishbone, perhaps was a way of memorializing the big event. Be that as it may, it worked out and we are grateful for the foresight and vision of the past and for the exciting things as we look ahead into the future.
