Wishbone provided the seating component for this commission piece located at the Lacombe Police Station.

The new police station features a cast bronze sculpture of a police officer on a bench at the main entrance, which helps create a warm and inviting environment for the public. The sculpture, created by renowned Canadian artist Nathan Scott, is the newest addition to the City’s public art collection, and was commissioned through the City’s Percent for Art policy, where one percent of qualifying municipal construction budgets is set aside to cover the costs of implementing and developing the public art collection.

“It was a real pleasure creating this sculpture, and I hope that the people of Lacombe will enjoy it for generations to come,” said artist Nathan Scott.

Here is a short article from The City of Lacombe

Urban Form in Derocher Park

This past Fall we had the pleasure of installing benches, tables and receptacles in the newly completed Derocher Park in Edmonton Alberta. The concept behind the park is to bring a space for nature to intertwine with the neighborhood. A place for families to walk, meet neighbors and enjoy the out doors. The parks department chose the modern Urban Form Collection to add a touch of style to contrast with the natural setting. We couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out.

At this site furnishing install you will find:

The Urban Form Straight Bench

The Urban Form Picnic Table

The Urban Form Waste Receptacle

Thank you to the City of Edmonton, the regional parks department and the neighborhood of Derocher for trusting Wishbone Industries for your site furnishing needs.

The Urban Form Full Back

The Urban Form reflects the modern, angular, minimalist aesthetic popular in contemporary architecture today. In keeping with the clean look this bench is meticulously finished with framed-in lumber and no exposed hardware.  The Urban Form Full Back Park Bench sports a traditional full backrest, setting it apart from the “flagship” Urban Form Bench with its distinctive three-quarter cantilevered backrest.

Mountain Classic Bench and Bronze Sculpture in Lacombe, Alberta

Appearing in our December 2016 newsletter was a collaboration project that involved one of our benches and a custom bronze sculpture. The project was for the Lacombe Police Station. The sculpture, created by renowned Canadian artist Nathan Scott, sits on a Wishbone Mountain Classic all-metal bench. We finally made it out to the site to take some new pictures of the completed project – and it looks amazing!

We Are Listening!

Wishbone makes it a mandate to provide solutions for the challenges faced by landscape architects and parks maintenance. We have been told by many municipalities that maintenance budgets are tight and it is tough to complete regularly scheduled maintenance with existing budgets, let alone address any unforeseen issues.

By the same token, maintenance crews tell us there is not enough time in the day to get everything done, so naturally some jobs don’t get the regular attention needed.

Solution: The Urban Form Self Watering Planter!

Municipalities can save multiple hours of maintenance weekly. The planter only needs watering once or twice a month, even in the hot summer months!

Fill up the reservoir and water wicks up to the underside of the plants, keeping the soil moist, and freeing up maintenance staff to deal with other priorities.

The liners are easily removed for winter storage and the boards are a simple switch out should they need replacement due to damage.

The combination of a rigid aluminum structure with the benefit of recycled plastic boards creates a winning, eye catching combination that matches the Urban Form waste receptacles and benches.

The Urban Form Bench is certainly a bench which is an eye catcher! This modern designhas captured the attention of landscape architects who have resoundingly given the ‘thumbs up’ to both the unique backed model as well as the backless version.

This European style design will give a fresh look to any landscape or surrounding. The idea was to create a bench which allows the user the option to face in any direction while enjoying the surprising comfort this bench possesses.

The third member in this series is the Urban Form Waste Receptacle. This 30 US gallon waste receptacle is super easy for any maintenance person to access as the front opening and has a hidden latch for easy opening and easy access to the liner. Also the unit has been designed with an open bottom which allows for continuous air flow and makes it super easy for maintenance crews to clean.

As with other site furnishings, the Urban Form Series comes with your choice of powder coat colors for the metal and recycled plastic slat colors as shown below.

Urban Form Series

1. Urban Form Planter

It all started with the self watering planter. We save municipalities hours each week in the hot summer months. Fill up the reservoir, and water wicks up to the underside of the plants, keeping the soil moist, and freeing up maintenance staff to deal with other priorities.

Water once or twice a month, instead of multiple times per week !

The combination of a rigid aluminum structure with the benefit of recycled plastic boards creates a winning, eye catching combination that matches proximal waste receptacles and benches.

2. Urban Form Bench

Urban Form Bench

"You've nailed it".

This is what we hear from the landscape architects who have seen the prototype. That's a good sign.

The Urban Form bench with backrest is a radical departure from anything we've ever created.

The offset backrest catches the eye. Makes you look twice. At first glance, you think someone has set up a computer desk with a flat screen in the park. Get up closer, and you figure it out.

Sitting on this bench becomes an experience.

The backless version is very unassuming. It serves the purpose. It complements the surroundings. It invites the public to park themselves and stay awhile.

3. Urban Form Waste Receptacle

This 30 US gallon waste receptacle is side opening, and has a side flap door. Keeps the rain out, and is easy to maintain. A great compliment to the Urban Form benches.
